Estes Park 2/5

This morning I went with my parents up to Estes. On our drive up I spotted a Mink playing on the ice and in the water in the narrows of Big Thompson Canyon. Fortunately there was a pull off at this spot where we were able to stop and get some pictures.

We then went into the park where we saw some Elk and a Coyote, but not to many birds.
                                                     Black-billed Magpie

On our way towards Mary's Lake we found 2 more Coyotes, which I got some picture of.

Mary's Lake had 3 Common Goldeneye, but that was it. We went down Fish Creek Road towards Scott Rashid's neighborhood looking for Rosy-Finches. The first house we got to in the area I heard a interesting trill call from what sounded like a Common Redpoll, but it quickly disappeared. We even tried playback to try to get it to come in, but no luck. We then drove by Scott's house, no Rosy-Finches. We then went towards a few other houses that I know of in the area that occasionally have Rosies. First house nothing, just before we got to the other house I know of I heard a bunch of Pygmy Nuthatches, but then I heard that same trill call. It gave the call about 5 times and then from the same area I heard a siskin like call. I wasn't able to find it in the tree I thought it was in, so we started driving forward, just then I noticed some feeders with a bird on it and as it flew I got a good brief view at an adult male Common Redpoll. This was the first adult male redpoll I have ever seen. Unfortunately I didn't have the time to get a photo. It was a very birdy neighborhood today, but no Rosy-Finches although we came away with a bird much more rare.
There was a lot of ducks at Lake Estes. Most of the birds were Mallards, but there was also quite a few Common Goldeneye, 1 Common Merganser, and 1 male Bufflehead.

We drove down McGraw Ranch Road, but we found very few birds. Three bull Elk was a nice addition though.
At Drake we saw 2 American Dippers along with a number of common mountain species.

Our last stop was at Glade Reservoir where we saw 6 Common Mergansers, 1 Common Goldeneye, and 2 'Lesser' Canada Geese. Driving the road on the west side of the reservoir we found 3 Wild Turkeys (125).
